Sam’s Grille Closes in Wynnewood

Posted by Alex Tewfik on December 3rd, 2012

After 16 years of service, Sam’s Grille has shut down. The family favorite bistro in the Wynnewood Shopping Center has gone dark and a sign on the door thanks their loyal customers for their years of patronage. Don’t fret too much, though; owner Susan Schlisman’s center city locations, Smokin’ Betty’s and Devil’s Alley, are still alive and kickin’.

Tired Hands Hosting an R5 Bar Crawl This Saturday

Posted by Foobooz on October 18th, 2012

Jean Broilet from Tired Hands Brewery has brewed a beer he’s calling R5 Saison. And in honor of the beer he’s having a bar crawl along SEPTA’s R5 line this this Saturday, October 20th. The beer includes five ingredients that begin with the letter “R” (Rye, ramon nut, roses, rhubarb and raisins). Each bar will have a customized version of the beer so it’ll be worth trying the beer at all four bars on the bar crawl.

The fun kicks off at Station Taproom in Downingtown at noon, runs down the R5 and finishes at Monk’s Cafe.

Here Come the Animal Rights Activists: Outrage Over Verdad’s “Backyard Sausages” Dish

Posted by Victor Fiorillo on October 11th, 2012

This morning, Bryn Mawr restaurant Verdad sent out notices about its new Salchicha de mi Patio (aka Sausages from my Backyard) dish. “Rabbits destroy the vegetable gardens, ducks feast on flowerbeds, and deer destroy millions of dollars in landscaping,” said chef Nick Farina in an e-mail. So, he found revenge in a $28 shared dish featuring house-made rabbit, duck and venison sausages.

“Diners can make sandwiches or tacos out of the furry creatures that trash their yards and flower beds,” Farina explained. “What a delicious way to flip the paradigm and take something from a few species that takes so much from us.”

Not everyone is enthused. Read the rest of this entry »

Free Little Baby’s Ice Cream and a Creepy Kickstarter Video

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on June 26th, 2012

Little Baby’s Ice Cream is giving out some of their cold stuff at the Urban Outfitters in Suburban Square, Ardmore on Thursday June 28th from 4-8pm. The giveaway is in conjunction with the opening of the store’s new Men’s section where 20% is taken off any Men’s merchandise when you say “I’m the man” at checkout.

In addition to all that weirdness, Little Baby’s has started a Kickstarter campaign in order to raise money to fund their dream of selling their ice cream in grocery stores. The money will go toward reusable pint containers for the ice cream as well as labels and stickers. The weird part is this ridiculously creepy and insanely awkward video that goes along with their campaign profile.

Go ahead and donate to the cause (they’re only part of the way towards their goal and donations end July 9th!), just don’t make us watch that video again.
