Del Frisco’s Bought Over $1 Million In Wine and Booze Last Year

Posted by Victor Fiorillo on May 14th, 2013

We were impressed back in October 2012 when we learned that Center City red meat emporium Del Frisco’s had purchased nearly $900,000 worth of wine and spirits through the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board the year prior. But in our most recent report, Del Frisco’s (and two other spots) break the $1 million mark.

Marc Vetri On Eataly Philadelphia: “Something Awesome Will Happen” at 8th and Market

Posted by Victor Fiorillo on April 18th, 2013

marc-vetri-wearing-crab

It’s been almost two years to the day since Marc Vetri tweeted: “At Eataly in New York. I mean seriously. It’s packed to the gills. Could this work in Philly? Because we are ready to bring it if you are.” And the word on the street (for a while) has been that the 50,000-square-feet Mario Batali-backed New York City marketplace has its sights set on the Strawbridge’s Building at 8th and Market streets. So today, I asked Marc Vetri where things stand.

100 Tickets Avaialble To Vetri Great Chefs After-party

Posted by Jason Sheehan on April 12th, 2013

Okay, so this one doesn’t really take any selling. You all know about Marc Vetri’s Great Chefs event, right? It is, hands down, one of the greatest Philly food events of the year. As a matter of fact, it’s one of the country’s greatest food events because, see, Vetri knows a lot of people from everywhere, and a lot of those people from everywhere descend on Philly for this one event.

Anyway, the one party that might be better than the Great Chefs party is the Great Chefs after-party–which, until this year, has been a completely private event, open only to those chefs who cooked for the public, some of the big-time sponsors and friends of Marc Vetri. It’s basically the place where all the white jackets go to hang out, relax and get weird after the big night is done.

But this year, there are 100 tickets to the after-party being sold to members of the public. $525 gets you through the door (and also includes general admission to the Great Chefs Event proper) to hang out with all the celebrity chefs. The party will be at Alla Spina, will run from 9:30pm to 2am, and will feature food (yes, more food) and booze (yes, more booze) from Adam Perry Lang, Alla Spina, Brooklyn Brewery, Little Baby’s Ice Cream, Mac Truck NYC, Route 6 and Victory Brewery.

Check out the official announcement (and ticket-getting details) after the jump.

Marc Vetri Serves Up Horse Meat On the Huffington Post

Posted by Victor Fiorillo on February 28th, 2013

Last week, Marc Vetri told us that he’d love to serve horse meat, adding, “Seriously, who decided what animals to eat and not to eat? Is a horse better than a cow or a rabbit? Really don’t get all the fuss.” On Thursday evening, he took to the Huffington Post to elaborate on the matter. Read the rest of this entry »

2013 James Beard Semifinalists Announced

Posted by Foobooz on February 19th, 2013

award-large

The 2013 James Beard Awards Semifinalists have been announced and nineteen local chefs, restaurants and beer professionals have made the list. Vernick Food & Drink leads the way with a nomination for Best New Restaurant. Marc Vetri gets a nod for Outstanding Chef and his Vetri restaurant gets a nod for Best Service. Also in the Vetri solar system, Amis’ Brad Spence is nominated for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic.

The coolest nomination might be for Andre Chin and Amanda Eap of East Passyunk’s Artisan Boulanger Patissier  who were nominated for Outstanding Pastry Chef. Artisan Boulanger has been open more than sixteen years at the corner of 12th and Morris Streets.

Also worth noting that East Passyunk has garnered some serious nominations, four in total. That’s more than than some serious food towns.
