Turney And Safran Watch: Little Nonna’s Now Officially A Thing

Posted by Jason Sheehan on May 1st, 2013

So we’ve been wondering for a while now what, exactly, Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran were going to do with the space-formerly-known-as-Fish at 1234 Locust Street. We knew they’d taken the address to add to their already significant 13th Street holdings. We knew that work there had already begun, and that a lot of it was focusing around the kitchen area. But what we didn’t know was what, exactly, the to of them had planned for the space.

Until now.

What are Safran and Turney Planning for 13th and Locust?

Posted by Foobooz on April 9th, 2013

Marcie Turney and partner Valerie Safran are working away at overhauling the two spaces they acquired in the Independent Hotel at 13th and Locust. Turney posted the above photo of an old German beer garden table that she purchased for the outdoor space between the former Fish and Rhino Bar. Perhaps this is a clue to what is to come? Could Turney and Safran be giving 13th Street the wursthaus that Jose Garces couldn’t? Time will tell. What we do know is, Lolita will be moving into the Locust Street space temporarily, as the 13th Street power couple renovate the ten-year old Lolita location and reopen it this summer with a new menu and liquor license.

We also know that the bigger space with the 13th Street entrance is getting its kitchen blown out. So there will be an even bigger open kitchen and a smaller bar area.

Marcie Turney And Valerie Safran Are Taking Over Fish

Posted by Jason Sheehan on March 11th, 2013

Over on the Insider, they’re reporting that it’s a done deal–that the owners of Barbuzo, Jamonera and Lolita (which just picked up a liquor license) have now officially decided to expand off of 13th Street (which they essentially own) and try to take on a new neighborhood by snapping up Fish.

No news on what, exactly, the pair plan to do with the double space (remember: this is also where Rhino Bar lived and died), but Klein does have a nice, succinct look back at the history of the embattled space under Mike Stollenwerk and others.
