UPDATE: NoBL Set to Reopen with Smaller Menu and Nothing Over $14

Posted by Foobooz on December 5th, 2012

NoBL, which closed last month to reconceptualize has done just that and is reopening December, 12. The restaurant is still Mediterranean and the menu is smaller, featuring salads, mezze, everyday entrees and specials. Prices at the BYOB top out at $14 and a carafe of sangria mixer is $10.

The menu will change weekly, with all the specials and mezze being swapped out. The everyday Entrees will be consistent for regulars to repeatedly enjoy.

Former chef, Sam Jacobson who was also the chef at Sycamore has given his notice so it is kitchen by committee for now. Owner Stephen Wagner is very hands-on in the kitchen for now, but will not be assuming the title of Executive Chef.

Hummus Grill Coming to Center City

Posted by Alex Tewfik on December 5th, 2012

Inquirer critic and Michigan native, Craig LaBan, was excited. He had his Tigers in the World Series, and the Famous Detroit Coney Company taking over the Santa Fe Burrito Company’s 11th Street location. But the tail-end of 2012 proved to be full of upsets for LaBan; his Tigers blew out of the Series in blaze-less glory, and the 11th Street Coney dog concept fell through.

Instead, Ardmore and University City’s Hummus Grill, just signed the lease to the space, and they’re hoping to complete renovations by March of 2013. And since they bear the award for 2012 Best of Philly Shawarma Platter, maybe this is something worth getting excited for again.

NoBL Brings Some Heat to Lansdowne

Posted by Foobooz on October 1st, 2012

Trey Popp urges you to see him in Lansdowne, the dry borough just west of Philadelphia where Sam Jacobson is turning out “banging” plates at NoBL.

NoBL offers Mediterranean comfort food with a compelling edge. From raw oysters with sriracha-lime cocktail sauce to ultra-tender octopus arms glistening with oil, the cooking is both sharp and as down-home as NoBL’s hodgepodge of grandmotherly dinner china.

The Cheat Sheet: Barbuzzo

Posted by Foobooz on November 16th, 2011

Barbuzzo is practically a dietitian’s dream. Not because it’s healthy per se—a 2010 Philly Mag review encourages diners to indulge and “balance the health ledger later.” Yikes—but because its menu is built for sharing. And sharing, as we know, is a healthy-minded diner’s best friend.

2010′s Dessert of the Year On the Go

Posted by Foobooz on December 14th, 2010

We’ve been compiling the results of our 2010 – The Menu submissions and have been blown away by how many of you picked the salted caramel budino from Barbuzzo as your favorite dessert. 25% of all respondents answered budino, overwhelmingly the favorite dessert of the year. That’s particularly impressive when you think that Barbuzzo just opened in September.

Now you can get budino six packs to go for $45. Order the desserts online and then pick them up the next day at the restaurant.
