Posted by Foobooz on February 6th, 2013

memphis-taproom-uwishunu

On the first Monday of the month the Memphis Taproom hosts a staff training that is open to the public. You, John Q Public can get in depth beer training right alongside the Memphis Taproom staff. Today that class focuses on three lambic beers and because of the pricey nature of the beers, the training will cost $25 (normally there is no cost).

Joining beer school today is special guest, Port Brewing and Lost Abbey head brewer Tomme Arthur. Arthur will help teach the class and his Santas Little Helper, Gift of the Magi, Wipeout IPA, Angels Share 2011, Older Viscosity 2011, Cuvee De Tomme and Red Poppy will be on tap all day.

Reservations are not required but you must arrive by noon and once the bar stools are filled, the class is full.

Boxing Day Beer List Set at Memphis Taproom

Posted by Foobooz on December 19th, 2012

As is its Boxing Day tradition, December 26th, Memphis Taproom will be serving some of the best seasonal beers from around the world. As the bar is also fond of doing, they’re collecting canned and non-perishable food items as well as winter coats. Earn a dollar off your first beer by bringing in three cans of food or a warm coat.

Also, 5% of all draft beer sales through 5 p.m. will go to Taste of the Nation Philadelphia, which raises money to fight childhood hunger.

Memphis Taproom’s Thirstoberfest is Tomorrow

Posted by Foobooz on October 26th, 2012

Memphis Taproom’s Thirstoberfest is upon us. This Saturday at noon, the beer haven at Memphis and Cumberland is celebrating October with beer and hot dogs. They’ve been saving up  over 25 flagship, rare, and limited edition suds for this special occasion and have comprised a beer list that sounds absolutely delicious. Think names like, Pliny the Elder, Russian River Consecration, Ommegang Scythe & Sickle, and more. It’s pay-as-you-go, wooden coin style, and special Thirstoberfest hot dogs will be offered at the truck outside.

And then make sure to also stop by Greensgrow Farm down the street so you can make all those pumpkin things you’ve promised yourself you’d make this Fall.

Philly is the Late-Night Capital of the US

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on August 9th, 2012

According to the September issue of Esquire, Philadelphia is the Late-Night Capital of these here United States. The issue’s late-night eats guide contains essays about the difference between truck stops and diners, the glory that is poutine (I’d say we agree), and tons of recipes for manly food to be eaten in the wee hours of the morning. Esquire even lists all the best late-night foods from all over America– from egg rolls in Chicago to fried chicken in Louisville– but without mentioning a single food from Philly. Why? Because we got our own article about why we’re the best ever, that’s why.

A Six Pack Round Up

Posted by Foobooz on May 3rd, 2012

We’ve got a handful of Six Packs under our belt and have really enjoyed putting them together. We’ve also liked the additions readers been able to add. We had no idea Memphis Taproom was going to be showing Twin Peaks all summer long and we’re happy to see that Stateside offers a dollar oyster happy hour weekdays between 5 and 7 p.m. Check out our Six Packs so far and expect to see more in the coming weeks and months.

If there’s a subject you would like to see turned into a Six Pack, drop us a note in the comments.

Pliny the Younger in Town, Bunch of Confirmed Tappings

Posted by Foobooz on February 28th, 2012

Pliny the Younger fever is heating up as the rare and highly sought after Russian River beer was delivered to local bars yesterday. City Tap House’s Andy Farrell tweeted a photo of the white whale of the beer world.

The beer is a triple IPA and its late winter release creates a nerdy hysteria across the country. The vast majority of the beer is distributed in California and the Pacific Northwest with some kegs making it to Denver. In past years Philadelphia has been the only East Coast city to receive shipments and it looks like that’s the case this year too (Take that DC, Boston, New York!). Farrell’s already fielded phone calls from Washington DC, Trenton and New Brunswick, New Jersey about his plans for tapping the sixtel.

Who gets to pour the beer is almost as geekily anticipated as who gets to drink it. This marks the first year that City Tap House will have a sixtel and of course Farrell and company are planning an event around the tapping.

UPDATE #7: We’ve moved our coverage to a listing format. Check it out here.
