We swung by the brand, spanking new Metropolitan Cafe this morning to take a look. The cafe isn’t completely finished but while the Metropolitan Bakery is being renovated down the block, you can pop in to take a look, have some coffee and of course get some Metropolitan bread.

The cafe will be fully functional by the end of the month.

Metropolitan Bakery Opening a Cafe Off of Rittenhouse Square

Metropolitan Bakery is turning 20 years old in 2013 and is celebrating the milestone by opening a cafe. The Metropolitan Cafe will be just steps away from their Rittenhouse Square shop, in the former Avanda Flower Shop at 264 S 19th Street.

When the cafe opens in January, 2013, expect to be able to enjoy cappucino, soups, salads, sandwiches and of course Metropolitan goodies. Owner Wendy Smith Born, who owns Metropolitan along with James Barrett,  says it will be a communal space where customers will be welcome to “hang your hat for as long as you wish.”

Check out the announcement video from owner Wendy Smith Born.
