Coffee and Crepes and Shakes, Oh My!

Posted by Maegan Cadet on December 10th, 2012

Who says crepes are only for the French? No one really, but the question had to be asked because Philly is set to get one more creperie: Global Crepes and Local Shakes.  Set to open in Passyunk Square this January, owner Liza Iezzi is hoping to bring good food and memories, inspired by a shop her grandfather owned on 11th and Christian.

The cafe will serve coffee, crepes, homemade shakes, and an assortment of teas, ice creams, and wraps. If you want to get a sneak peek at Iezzi’s crepes, head over to Christmas Village at Love Park, where she’s serving crepes and baked waffles. Rumor has it Nutella is involved.

Turducken Sandwiches and Pumpkin Pie Shakes

Posted by Foobooz on November 12th, 2012

Jake’s Sandwich Board has brought back its most popular sandwich and shake now through Thanksgiving. The sandwich is a turducken sandwich is first smothered in cranberry spread, then layered with apple-sausage stuffing and stuffed with creole seasoned slices of turkey, duck and chicken and topped off with brown gravy and hashbrowns. The pumpkin pie shake (which we don’t recommend consuming at the same time you tackle the Turducken sandwich) is vanilla ice cream blended with fresh pumpkin pie and topped with ginger bread cookies. The sandwich is $10 and the shake is $5.

Posted by Foobooz on October 2nd, 2012

Did you know the World Tea East tradeshow gets underway in Philadelphia tomorrow. Well, let this be your notice. And in honor of this event, Philadelphia’s Shake Shack is offering a special edition Chai Tea Spiced Black & White Shake. The shake includes vanilla custard spun with fudge sauce and a chai tea spice blend from Philadelphia tea consultant and writer, Alexis Siemons. Perhaps you follow her Teaspoons & Petals web site. The rich and creamy frozen custard is available through October 7th for $5.75

Introducing the Chick-Phil-Gay at PYT: “Now With 100% Less Hatred”

Posted by Jason Sheehan on August 3rd, 2012

That whole Chick-fil-A/gay marriage controversy? It’s never going to go away. Over on the Philly Post, Victor Fiorillo reports on the era of the “Protest Sandwich”–which begins with the new Chick-Phil-Gay being done by (who else?) Tommy Up from PYT.

Unsurprisingly, Tommy has a few things to say about it:

It’s a boneless breast of chicken seasoned to perfection, hand-breaded, cooked in peanut oil and served on a toasted, buttered bun with dill pickle chips. Served with waffle fries, it’s oddly familiar, but with 100% less hatred. For every Chick-Phil-Gay we sell, we’ll donate $1 to the Mazzoni Center, an organization that provides counseling and health services for LGBTQ Philadelphians. Oh, and while you’re here, try one of our famous hand-spun adultshakes. They’re the gayest shakes in town.

Check out the full Chick-Phil-Gay story over on the Philly Post. And then show your support for free speech, gay rights, delicious chicken sandwiches and an end to idiocy by running on down to PYT to try one for yourself.

Village Whiskey Shakes

Posted by Arthur Etchells on July 28th, 2011

Several weeks ago I was at Village Whiskey for something to eat (and drink) after a rather informative cruise down the Schuylkill River (which is worth checking out). On the menu–below the belly busting burgers and hedonistic duck fat fries–was a section for milkshakes. And not just any kind of milkshakes, but liquor-enhanced Irish Car Bomb shakes and a strawberry rum version as well.

I tweeted that VW was serving Irish Car Bomb shakes. I expected backlash. I expected at least a couple, What is Jose Garces doing? That’s disgusting. I expected some sense of outrage that this very grown-up bar was stooping to sell Irish Car Bombs of any kind. But instead I received yumsOMGs and I have to try thats.
