Grey Lodge does it right. They have a calendar filled with worthwhile events, and they’re always rotating through some bad-ass beers.
Take for example today, May 3rd, when they’ll be tapping eight Dogfish Head beers, all of them season or occasional brews (except for the 60 Minute, but you can’t not have the 60 Minute), and all of them delicious.

What the world sees as April 4th the Grey Lodge sees as 04/04. And that means that all day the Northeast Philadelphia beer bar will be pouring four Belgian-style Quads (a quad of Quads). The high-alcohol abbey style ales are all over 10% alcohol by volume and pack quite the punch.

Troegs’ bigger Hershey brewery means more of its highly sought after Mad Elf for everyone. In fact it has been available in six-packs and cases for almost a month. But tonight is its debut on tap for 2012. So head up to Northeast Philadelphia to the Grey Lodge to try out the 2012 batch.
Also on tap will be more Troegs beer including a keg of Mad Elf from 2011, a Belgian Brown Ale and a fresh hopped Troegs beer.

We really love the events at the Grey Lodge from Friday the Firkinteenth to Saint Andrews Day. The Northeast Philadelphia beer bar knows how to (ab)use the calendar for all sorts of beer events.
Tonight Scoats and his crew is holding 10-Four Good Buddy Night. The event will pair beer with food that compliments each other, just like good buddies do.

It’s Friday the 13th and that means it is a Friday the Firkinteenth at the Grey Lodge in Northeast Philadelphia. There won’t be another until September of 2013 so miss today’s event and regret it for fourteen months.
As always there will be a plethora of firkins available throughout the day. The first set of seven firkins will be tapped at 10 a.m. and the Grey Lodge has 21 firkins in total. That means the event should last through to 10 p.m. unless people are particularly parched or prone to vacation today.
Follow along with what beers are pouring via the Grey Lodge’s news page.

Rieker Meats is a familiar name to any German food loving Philadelphian. On Thursday, May 17th, Rieker’s patriarch, Walter Rieker passed away, he was 73. Rieker opened his German delicatessen in 1970 and worked in the store even after his son Marcus took over the business in 2004.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 8:00 A.M. and to his funeral service at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Memorial Church, 7200 Roosevelt Boulevard, at St. Vincent Street.

Adam Erace heads to the Northeast for Korean barbecue at Bobo’s. Bobo’s it turns out has been there for eight years but recently been reborn with better quality meats, 30+ craft beers and three women called Auntie.
Of the barbied meats, the prime rib was the resounding favorite, marinated 48 hours in a brew featuring soy, sesame oil, scallion, kiwi fruit and secret ingredients known only to Auntie No. 2 and her matriarchal posse. Sweet and sour white onions added punch and salinity to the less thrilling pork belly. I also enjoyed the matcha-sprinkled pig with a bit of gyeran jjim, the silky steamed egg custard percolating in a neat clay chamber. Breakfast written all over it! “The egg is palate cleanser,” Kim explains. “Like ginger with sushi.” Oops.
Oh! The kimchi. Bobo’s is the best I’ve had: crunchy, ripe and really hot. The hunks of fermented cabbage arent the only areas where Auntie No. 2 deploys high-octane levels of spice.

Beer gardens are all the rage. Hop Angel Brauhaus hopes to open their own this weekend.
Changes are also being worked on to lighten up the menu, the kind of food that lets you fit one more half-liter of Franziskaner. There will be a dedicated seafood section on the menu. The Northeast spot has also added happy hour Monday through Friday with free appetizers and select $3 pints. Also in the offering, Sunday brunch.
