Oyster Dinner at Mica

Posted by Alex Tewfik on April 16th, 2013

Mica seems to want a bigger piece of the map.

First, they announced that Perrier will take hold of the restaurant’s reigns for a week in May, and now, they’re offering a four course oyster dinner this Wednesday and Thursday. The menu will have no geographic theme to it, with a menu ranging from Garganelli pasta to a po’ boy, but who cares? Oysters are great—especially when prepared with the culinary prowess of Chip Roman.

Massive Oysters at Doc Magrogan’s University City

Posted by Victor Fiorillo on February 12th, 2013

MASSIVEOYSTER

I was once with cheesesteak mogul Tony Luke at some Beverly Hills restaurant (long story), and he ordered these big, fat oysters that–I swear–were the size of small cheeseburgers. These Elkhorn oysters from Washington State are kind of bringing back those memories. Read the rest of this entry »

Doc Magrogan’s in University City and West Chester does buck-a-shuck oysters from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Mondays. Tonight those buck-a-shuck oysters include 15 different varieties of bivalves, Nova Scotia to Washington. That’s a heck of a lot more variety than your average dollar oyster happy hour.

Why Do So Many Restaurants Screw Up Oysters?

Posted by Victor Fiorillo on January 11th, 2013

Last night, I wound up at Rembrandt’s for dinner with a friend. The longtime Fairmount tavern recently brought in chef Nick Cassidy from Buddakan to spruce things up a bit, and I was curious to see whether change was a good thing for Rembrandt’s.

Oyster House Offering Oysters To Go & Dump Dinners

Posted by Alex Tewfik on November 20th, 2012

Oyster House’s Oysters To-Go gives you the ability to take your at-home or in-office events up to a new level.

This holiday season, guests can pick from Sam Mink’s  menu of East Coast and West Coast oysters, with everything from his favorite clean, salty Pemaquids to the briny Blue Points of New York. Serve them as appetizers at your next gathering, create an oyster-driven menu at your next dinner party, or build-your-own raw bar; the possibilities are endless.

The oysters will be shucked and packed on ice in special trays to preserve their liquor and ensure freshness. They’re only available by advance-order, so call ahead or stop in, place the order, and the return later to pick them up.

But that’s not all »

Buck-a-Shuck Monday Kicks Off at Doc Magrogan’s Tonight

Posted by Victor Fiorillo on August 6th, 2012

Given that yesterday was National Oyster Day, I popped over to the just opened University City outpost of Doc Magrogan’s to enjoy some bivalves and cocktails. (And the smoked fish dip and grilled mahi-mahi). Bartender Brian gave me the heads up that today is the first of Doc’s weekly Buck-a-Shuck Mondays, with a few varieties of oyster priced at just a dollar — not just during happy hour, but all night. Today’s buck-a-shuck selections: Sewansecott, James River and Delaware Bay.
