Paesano’s Is Heading to Margate

Posted by Foobooz on April 19th, 2013

paesano_aristaPaesano’s recently posted a job listing on Foobooz, looking for a counter/sandwich maker “for at least one more shop opening in the next couple weeks.” Paesano’s general manager Nate Baynes tells us that the sandwich shop is definitely looking to expand this summer and will “most likely” operate out of Jerry Blavat’s Memories night club in Margate. They are of course aiming to open in time for Memorial Day but there are details to iron out.

One idea is to be open 24-hours a day to cater to people at the Atlantic City casinos.

Six Pack: Suckling Pig In Philadelphia

Posted by Alex Tewfik on October 9th, 2012

Editor’s Note: This week, we’re going to be introducing our new army of interns to you, the Foobooz readership. And it occurred to us that what better way for you to get to know them a little then for them to tell you all about something they loved to eat. Thus, we set them each to assembling their own Foobooz Six Pack, focusing on something they loved.

Our first submission came from Alex Tewfik, a student at Saint Joseph’s University in Philadelphia, PA. As a food and restaurant enthusiast, Alex spends every waking moment of his day inventing new ways to keep himself eating while hiding how fat he actually is from the rest of the world.

Take it away, Alex…

Matyson’s Suckling Pig Sundays are no more. They have moved on to bigger things. Fortunately, the rest of the city hasn’t. So if you need to satiate your suckling pig cravings, there are plenty of places in and around the city that know how to cook that piglet just right. So with that in mind, here it is: The best places to get suckling pig in Philadelphia.

Slow Roasted Suckling Pig at Il Pittore

Chef Chris Painter’s claim to fame at his semi-eponymous restaurant, Il Pittore, takes three whole days to perfect, and that’s exactly what it ends up being: perfect. Cured in salt, sugar, and herbs for 15 hours, it’s then slow roasted for 12 hours, then buried in pig fat, then portioned and pressed over night. The slow-roasted meat sits on a bed of whole baby carrots and sautéed cavalo nero, swimming in a rich guanciale jus. Crowned with sweet pear mostarda, this pig is a real beauty.

More suckling pig this way…

Best Of Philly: Free Pork Sandwich Tasting Today

Posted by Jason Sheehan on May 23rd, 2012

Want to see Peter McAndrews (of Paesano’s, Modo Mio, Popolino and Monsu) talk dirty to a big chunk of pork? Then watch the video above.

Want to see him (or some of his minions) do it live? Then come out today at noon to the Shops At Liberty Place where we’ll be holding another Best Of Philly public tasting–this time of roast pork sandwiches. We’ll have crews coming in from the aforementioned Paesano’s, from DiBruno Bros., from McCrossen’s Tavern and Jake’s Sandwich Board. You’ll get to eat some sandwiches then vote for which one gets crowned as the Best Roast Pork Sandwich in this year’s Best Of Philly issue (coming in August).

So the details again: Free sandwiches, noon, today, Shops at Liberty Place. Got it? And don’t be late because something tells me that these suckers are going to go fast

Fishtown Pop-Up At Cook, In Pictures

Posted by Jason Sheehan on February 17th, 2012

The Italians invented foie gras. The Italians taught the Chinese everything they know about cooking. Cooking is all about love, but if you don’t like chicken livers you should just stab yourself in the leg.

This is just a tiny piece of the kitchen wisdom offered up by Peter McAndrews when he and his posse–including Nate Baynes, Jerry Blavat (yeah, that one), and a quiet, mysterious fella called Doc Razor–stepped behind the line at Cook for our Fishtown pop-up on Wednesday night. It was weird. It was wild. And yes, we have pictures.

McLovin Paesano’s

Posted by Foobooz on March 14th, 2011

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day and the Irish roots of Paesano’s owner Peter McAndrews, the Italian Market sandwich shop is featuring a special all week, the McLovin. The $8 sandwich consists of corned beef brisket, sauerkraut, herbed cheddar and Thousand Island dressing. Sounds a lot better to us than a Shamrock Shake.
