Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival Is Happening This Saturday

The annual Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival is this Saturday, May 18, from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.. The festival extends from Walnut Street from Broad to 19th and on  18th Street, from Locust to Sansom. Over 40 of the areas best restaurants will be serving up their cuisine for your enjoyment at an affordable price. Some highlights of the participating restaurants include a. Kitchen, Barclay Prime, Continental Mid-town, Di Bruno Bros., El Rey, Le Bec Fin, Oyster House, Parc, SbragaShake Shack, Vernick, and Village Whiskey.

If that doesn’t make you want go, maybe this will; there will be a tasting area with 20 of the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board’s Chairman’s Selection wines with a concierge and on-site store.

Other stands will offer Peroni beer, Rex Goliath wines, Cintron, and cocktails. Also, there will be cooking demonstration at 19th and Walnut courtesy of Starr Restaurants. The great food, booze, shopping, activities and weather make the Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival a can’t miss.

Del Frisco’s Bought Over $1 Million In Wine and Booze Last Year

We were impressed back in October 2012 when we learned that Center City red meat emporium Del Frisco’s had purchased nearly $900,000 worth of wine and spirits through the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board the year prior. But in our most recent report, Del Frisco’s (and two other spots) break the $1 million mark.

The Washingtonian has run some renderings of Stephen Starr’s Le Diplomate in Washington DC. If you’ve been to Parc, it will look familiar. In the post, Stephen Starr also drops that he’s considering bringing Buddakan or maybe even Fette Sau to Washington.

Speculating on Stephen Starr’s Hotels

Stephen Starr has been talking about hotels for years. This Philadelphia Business Journal article has Starr getting into the hotel business back in 2004. But then came the economic downturn and boutique hotels stayed on the back burner. So during ThinkFest Starr mentioned opening two boutique hotels in Philadelphia. One near Rittenhouse Square and another in Fishtown.

Stephen Starr’s Washington DC Restaurant Is Le Diplomate

The name of Stephen Starr’s upcoming Parc-esque restaurant in Washington DC will be Le Diplomate. The French restaurant is aiming to open in early 2013 on 14th Street and Avenue Q NW. That neighborhood is known to beer nerds through Churchkey and Birch and Barley and is seriously blowing up.

Chef Shuffling: Starr Chefs to Former Starr Chefs

In addition to the big news that Walter Abrams is coming to Philadelphia via San Francisco and the French Laundry to be the new guy at Le Bec-Fin, there is a lot of other chef news.

Mike Santoro, who was the opening chef at Talula’s Garden and came to Philadelphia from DC’s Blue Duck Tavern, is opening his own restaurant in the former James space on 8th Street. Eater reports that Michael Dorris will be his partner and they are aiming to open in June. [Philly Eater]
