On Wednesday June 20th from 6 to 9 p.m. Southwark will be hosting the good people of Philadelphia Brewing Company and those of the soon-to-be-open Blue Belly BBQ (also the guys behind Cochon) for a summer cook-out. For $35 you get a choice of two meat dishes, two sides, a dessert, and three draft brews. Check out the full menu below.
Tonight from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the Fair Food Farmstand at Reading Terminal Market will be having a free celebration of the release of 2012-2013 Philadelphia Local Food Guide. The Guide, which is a comprehensive annual handbook to local foods in Philly, connects readers to the region’s artisanal breweries, wineries, retailers, caterers, restaurants, markets and more.
Philadelphia Brewing Company is celebrating the release of its newest beer, The Point Breeze Summer Lager. The beer is debuting on Tuesday, April 24th from 6 to 9 p.m. at American Sardine Bar. The celebration will also be an opportunity to check out the newly built outdoor area and community garden next to ASB.
On Friday, April 13 Greensgrow Farm will host its fourth annual Whole Hog head-to-tail feast. The event will be held in the Philadelphia Brewing Company tasting room. This year’s feast will feature an expansive buffet menu from restaurants from the river wards and beyond. Each restaurant will include vegetarian options and dessert in addition to parts of the hog.
We thought it was a gluten deficiency when a recently diagnosed celiac disease sufferer told us about Philadelphia Brewing Company’s Cider. Poor chap was delusional, telling himself it was cider while he was actually quaffing Kenzinger. But we reached out to PBC’s Nancy Barton and she let us know that Philadelphia Brewing Co.’s cider does exist.
The cider was produced in a limited run in June. Simply called Cider, the 150 kegs are already out in the market. It’s a dry, tart cider and comes in at 5.5% alcohol by volume.
The cider sold out fast but they have a few kegs at the brewery for Saturday tours and for growler fills.
There are plans to brew it again but probably not until next year when there will be some extra capacity. The fall is a busy time at the brewery with Harvest From The Hood, Winter Wunder, Shackamaximum and Kilty Pleasure hogging the tanks.
On Saturday, June 11th at the Liberty Lands park A Full Plate Cafe is presenting their first ever Chili Cook-Off. Amateur and professional teams will compete. $10 gets you chili and $15 will get you a bottomless cup of Philadelphia Brewing Co. beers. The cup is good for the cook-off and the Spring Music Fest that follows.
The Philadelphia Flower Show sponsors a contest where local businesses create window displays in honor of the show. We’ve spotted several with a food and drink theme including an impressive display at Pub & Kitchen and a fun one featuring Kenzinger bottles at Philadelphia Brewing Co.

Harvest in the Hood is a wet-hopped beer made with fresh hops picked from nearby Greensgrow Farm. This is the first in PBC’s Select series of beers that will also be available in 22 ounce bottles. Harvest in the Hood will be followed by:
