Hammer of Glory Is Missing & Now Is Found

Posted by Foobooz on June 9th, 2013

hammer-alert

The Hammer of Glory has gone missing. The symbol of Philadelphia Beer Week, a nine pound, four-foot long, silver-topped sledgehammer is inscribed with the word “BEER” and answers to “HOG.” It was last seen on Frankford Avenue around 4:30 p.m. Saturday during the FestivaALE street party.

If you come in contact with the Hammer of Glory, please take it to the nearest bar participating in Philly Beer Week.

UPDATE: The Hammer of Glory has been found, reportedly under I-95. Mmmm, hmmm.

The Industry turns one tonight and they’re celebrating with a Philly Beer Week event. They’ll be pouring all the special beers they’ve had on during beer week for $5. There will also be passed hors d’oeuvres. A party bus will also be running between the Industry and Good Dog Bar for people who have no idea where Pennsport is.

And it is all for a good cause with 20% of proceeds going to Pennsport based Edward O’Malley Athletic Association.

Zeppoli’s Joey Baldino at Alla Spina for Beer Week Industry Night

Posted by Foobooz on May 30th, 2013

Feast of the Seven Fishes with Joey Baldino of Zeppoli

For all those who think Zeppoli in Collingswood is a bridge too far away. Good news, Zeppoli and Joey Baldino are coming to Alla Spina for Industry Night on Monday, June 3rd. Of course people who complain about going to Collingswood probably also complain about going to north Broad, but whatever, more food for us.

Baldino is serving up a Sicilian feast as Alla Spina also welcomes St. Louis’ Perennial Brewing and Colorado’s Great Divide Brewing to the house for Philly Beer Week. The breweries will be offering discounted drafts and Baldino will be preparing a feast of dishes like pistachio sausage, swordfish spiedini and much more.

As always, the food is free and the drinks are cheap. It all gets started at 10 p.m., a hospitality pay stub is required for admission, or visiting Beer Week peeps can get in with a business card.

Get Ready for Opening Tap and Philly Beer Week

Posted by Taylor Bush on May 29th, 2013

opening_tap_banner

Every Philadelphia beer lover’s favorite holiday is starting this Friday —Philly Beer Week. And it all kicks off at the Opening Tap. This year’s opening event is bigger and better than ever. As in past years, Opening Tap ceremonies will commence at 7 p.m. Friday, May 31st with the traditional “first tap” by Mayor Michael Nutter, held outside on Independence Mall adjacent to the Independence Visitor Center.

Inside the Visitor Center more than 29 regional brewers will be pouring some of their best beer. General admission costs $45 per person and includes a souvenir tasting glass. VIP tickets costs $90 per person and will include some of the region’s most unique beers from its very best breweries, a  food buffet and other surprises.  Both tickets can be purchased online.  Tickets will not be available at the door.

Making its debut at Opening Tap is Brotherly Suds 4, an English summer ale with a zesty citrus hop, brewed at Yards this year by Tom Kehoe, Bill Covaleski of Victory, Gordon Grubb of Nodding Head, Mark Edelson of Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant and Gene Muller of Flying Fish.

Dock Street Brews Summer Collaboration, Crackle and Squeeze

Posted by Foobooz on May 9th, 2013

 meyer-lemons-dock-street

Dock Street Brewing and their partners at the Four Seasons are continuing their collaborative beer seasons. Yesterday was brew day for their summer beer, Crackle and Squeeze. Look for this beer, made with meyer lemons and cracked pink and black peppers to debut during Philly Beer Week.

Right now, you can still drink the spring seasonal, O.P. Yum (oates and pomegranate beer) at The Lounge in the Four Seasons. A reasonable way to end an afternoon of museums or Center City shopping.
