Brooklyn Flea Philly Is Looking for More Food Vendors

Posted by Foobooz on June 14th, 2013

brooklyn-flea-philly

Brooklyn Flea Philly already has a significant food presence with Mighty Quinn’s BBQ, Red Hook Lobster, Wursthaus Schmitz, Nomad Pizza and this week, Alchemy Creamery from Brooklyn is joining the fun. Also look for Hot Diggity in a week or two. But that’s not enough, Brooklyn Flea Philly is still looking for more food vendors to serve under the flea market’s tents.

So if you’re a chef with a side-project, a startup with a great idea that you want to test at the market and have the intestinal fortitude to make it through the City’s Office of Food Protection’s Special Event licensing process, the Brooklyn Flea wants to hear your idea.

Pitch your concept at http://www.brooklynflea.com/sellphilly or email philly@brooklynflea.com with questions about eligibility.

Springtime Alchemy Happening at Emmanuelle

Posted by Foobooz on May 29th, 2013

emmanuelle-phoebe-christian

Brian Freedman finds that Christian Gaal and Phoebe Esmon have created a warm weather menu of seasonally appropriate cocktails at Northern Liberties’ Emmanuelle, that are far from dumbed down

Several weeks ago, I had a chance to check out a number of the new drinks as they were approaching their final stages of development, and the results, as I expected, were stunning. One drink in particular I can’t stop thinking about is the Satyricon, a brilliant assembly of gin, dry curaçao, lemon, cinnamon and cardamom tinctures, and an ingenious red pepper-carrot-ginger syrup. An hour after I tasted it, I was still trying to parse it in my mind: It goes down both dangerously easily (as is the goal of this season’s drinks) and lingers on the palate beautifully. Esmon and Gaal are alchemists as much as they are mixologists, and the payoff of their painstaking work is evident in every sip.

What Food Do You Want at the Piazza’s Brooklyn Flea Philly?

Posted by Victor Fiorillo on April 15th, 2013

piazza

Over on the Philly Post, I just broke the news that Brooklyn Flea Philly will debut at the Piazza in June, meaning Smorgasburg Fishtown can’t be far off. Brooklyn Flea co-founder Jonathan Butler was mum on details about what Philly food favorites we’ll find at Brooklyn Flea Philly, but he did tell me that Brooklyn Flea staples Red Hook Lobster Pound and Grady’s Cold Brew have signed on.

Here’s my wish list for Brooklyn Flea Philly:

1. HyBird, the Questlove/Stephen Starr collaboration.
2. Pete McAndrews with a whole roasted pig, a very sharp knife, and some good bread.
3. The Marc Vetri Mobile Pizzeria.
4. Scott Schroeder making sardine sandwiches.
5. Lil Pop Shop.

PYT’s Tommy Up loves himself some Han Dynasty. So this week his Northern Liberties burger spot is offering a special burger created by Han Chiang himself. The burger is a blend of dan-dan sauce marinated pork belly and beef patty topped with spicy cucumbers and dan-dan aioli, served on a soft Chinese bun. Each burger is accompanied by a side of sichuan fries.

Get it now, because this special won’t last forever.

Blatstein Gives Up Controlling Interest in Piazza and Liberties Walk

Posted by Foobooz on February 7th, 2013

The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Bart Blatstein has sold 60% of his interest in the Piazza at Schmidts and Liberties Walk. Kushner and Oaktree Capital Management L.P., a real estate investment fund are the buyers and the Inquirer estimates the deal is worth $130 million to Blatstein.

It would appear the deal gives Blatstein a cash infusion for his North Broad casino project, The Provence.

Posted by Foobooz on November 30th, 2012

We love the 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. happy hour and salute the bars that offer it. Emmanuelle is now in that class with their Entre Vous happy hour, offered 6 to 8 p.m. Skip the beers but consider the $7 cocktails.

Holiday Food Truck Round Up

Posted by Amanda Shulman on November 29th, 2012

Now that Thanksgiving has come and gone and December is peeking around the corner, it is acceptable to start getting into the holiday spirit. Crank up the Michael Buble Christmas album, break out the strands of lights and pull out your favorite latke recipes. Along with these classic preparations, also head to the Piazza at Schmidts for the Holiday Food Truck Round Up.

This Saturday, December 1st, food trucks are gathering at the Piazza to kick of the holiday season, but not just the upcoming holidays. Rather, they are celebrating all the holidays, from Independence Day to Cinco de Mayo. Each truck will have their own holiday theme with dishes to match. The day will also mark the beginning of Philly Mobile Food Association’s month long partnership with Philabundance. The trucks will be collecting canned goods, so come ready to give and ready to eat.

It will be the perfect end to a day of shopping at the Northern Liberties Shopping Spree.

Emmanuelle Offers Sophistication Off the Piazza

Posted by Foobooz on November 21st, 2012

Emmanuelle, the cocktail parlor from Tommy Up opens tonight facing away from Piazza at Schmidts both literally and figuratively. The bar faces Hancock Street behind Up’s PYT and also aims to be something very different than what is available on the Piazza. The cocktail lounge is adorned with sexy velvet wallpaper, odd portraits of Napoleon Bonaparte and Farah Fawcett, a Adam Wallacavage octopus chandelier and just enough nooks to disappear into. The drink list is designed by Katie Loeb and turned out by Phoebe Esmon and Michael Burleigh.

For those who have turned away from the Piazza, Emmanuelle offers some sexy sophistication.
