We’re Getting Younger, But How Much?

Posted by Foobooz on February 24th, 2011

It’s Pliny the Younger season again. The once-a-year triple IPA from Russian River makes beer geeks totally lose their freaking minds. The limited run beer is only shipped to select markets (Philadelphia is the only location east of the Mississippi to receive it). Last night it was tapped and kicked in no time at TJ’s in Paoli. Last year there were only 10 or so sixtels delivered to Philadelphia and each of them created its own spectacle.

Tickets are on sale now for Sunday’s tapping at the Khyber Pass Pub. Each ticket is $15, the profits of which go to The Free Library Of Philadelphia Foundation.

Monday has the Younger and seven other Russian River beers on tap at Monk’s Cafe. Younger will be tapped at 11:20am and sold for $15 per glass. All the proceeds all go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand.

We’ll update this post as we learn of more Pliny the Younger tappings.

Update: St. Stephen’s Green is tapping their Pliny the Younger at noon today (Friday March 4th). Look for the Sidecar Bar & Grille to tap their keg next Friday during their weekend of IPA’s Greatest Hits.

Update 2: Saturday, March 5th will see Devil’s Den tapping their keg at 11am.

Update 3: Resurrection Ale House will tap their Younger along with the Elder and Sanctification and Redemption on Tuesday, March 15th. First 50 who replied to Resurrection’s newsletter will get in at 11am. Doors open to the public at noon.

Update 4: The Drafting Room in Exton pre-sold tickets for their HopFest this Saturday. That’s 8 kegs accounted for.

Resurrection Kills Fried Chicken

Posted by Foobooz on December 20th, 2010

Since Bon Appetit called Resurrection Ale House’s fried chicken one of the ten best in America it has seemed the fame has sat awkwardly with the Resurrection staff. Just this summer the “Cockamamie Rule about the Chicken” was added, limiting the ordering of fried chicken to three per table and now Meal Ticket reports it is off the menu entirely.

Scanning the most recent menu indeed finds no mention of the much praised dish and the cockamamie rule is gone as well. Meal Ticket says it will return to the menu from time to time as a special and they aren’t ruling out a resurrection of the twice fried chicken but as of now, it is gone.

If you’re bummed about the 86ing of Resurrection’s chicken, at least there are still these other choices on our Fried Chicken Map.

Happy Birthday Resurrection

Posted by Foobooz on September 20th, 2010

Resurrection Ale House is turning one on Wednesday and  they are throwing themselves a well-deserved party. Starting at 5pm there will be complimentary snacks and what promises to be a “spectacular” draft list.

But that’s not all, at 8pm Resurrection is going to be part of Dogfish Head’s Randall, the Enamel Animal 3.0 extravaganza. We’ll leave it to the Dogfish Head web site to describe what a randall is and what it does but suffice to say, Dogfish Head’s Olde School Barleywine will be tapped and the Randall will be infusing the beer with prunes soaked in 1997 JW Lees Barleywine.

Unusual Menu Footnotes

Posted by Foobooz on July 26th, 2010

When we were in California a couple weeks back we noticed more than one menu that politely stated “changes & modifications politely declined.”

Closer to home we see there can be a downside to having your fried chicken praised by Bon Appetit, Resurrection Ale House has had to add this unusual disclaimer to its menu:

The Cockamamie Rule About the Chicken:

Yes, it is true, our Twice Fried Chicken might be some of the most written about chicken in the history of all chickendom, however, we are only able to prepare so many orders per day. In an effort to spread the chicken love around, we limit each table to 3 orders of fried chicken. Thank you for understanding. You will be rewarded in chicken heaven.

So we ask you dear readers, do you have any menu footnotes that stand out as peculiar, funny or even offensive?

Feeling Sick Tomorrow?

Posted by Foobooz on July 19th, 2010

Resurrection Ale House is throwing a curveball by tapping Russian River Registration Ale and another great beer tomorrow at noon. The sought after Registration Ale will be just $5 a glass and Captain Lawrence’s Fresh Chester Pale Ale will also be tapped at mid-day.

With all the heat, rain and air conditioning, we can practically hear your throat getting sorer. And if you truly have a sore throat, we can’t imagine a better solution than honey drizzled fried chicken.

Resurrection Gets National Acclaim

Resurrection Ale House Crow Logo

Resurrection Ale House’s fried chicken makes Bon Appetit’s list of the Top 10 Best Places for Fried Chicken.

Crispy fried chicken with ice-cold beer is one of the great food-beverage pairings of the world, and this gastropub has exceptional versions of both: lots of locally brewed stuff on tap and twice-fried chicken with a spiced-honey drizzle.

See what you’ve done Bon Appetit? Now we have a craving.

Weekend

Posted by Foobooz on May 14th, 2010

fantini

Flyers Friday

Resurrection Ale House kicks off its initial after-work happy hour today with a dollar off all draft beer from 4 to 6pm.

At 7pm the Flyers play the Bruins in an improbably game seven. We’ve been told the craziest Flyers fans can be found at South Philly Bar & Grill, that bar across from Pat’s and Geno’s. They even have a goal horn when the Flyers score. If that doesn’t work for you how about a Flyer Fantini at McGillin’s Old Ale House (pictured above)?

Valanni is promoting their 60″ and 42″ flatscreens at the bar plus they will have half-priced tapas, $5 Kettel One drinks and all drafts for $3.

Jose Pistola’s is making sure no superstition is left to chance. They’ll be playing Kate Smith’s God Bless America before the game.

Saturday

It’s the annual Italian Market Festival where you can complete this hat-trick of pork. Canulli’s House of Pork, Bebe’s Barbecue and Los Taquitos de Puebla.

It’s San Diego night on Armed Forces Day. What does that mean? Well to the oh-so-clever Scoats it means the Grey Lodge will be featuring the beers of San Diego, the city that gave us this.

Sunday

Stroll through the farmers’ market at Headhouse Square and stock up for the week or try the Chef’s Dinner at Sycamore.
