Meme’s Fried Chicken to Make a Reappearance

Posted by Foobooz on April 18th, 2013

Meme - Fried Chicken Lunch

David Katz and Scott Schroeder have been missing Meme’s fried chicken Thursdays. So on Thursday, May 2nd Katz and Schroeder are doing a fried chicken pop-up at American Sardine Bar. It will be the same deal as Meme’s was before it closed. $11 gets you chicken, a biscuit and a bottle of Miller High Life. They two hope to have a couple sides to offer as well. The offer starts at 11 a.m. and goes until they run out of chicken.

See you there and keep those High Lifes freezing cold.

Drunken Brunch Alert: Whiskey & Waffles At Ela And SPTR

Posted by Alex Tewfik on March 13th, 2013

Maple Syrup on Pancakes

Apparently Jason Cichonski likes a “girly” shot aptly named “Pancakes & Syrup,” and that will be the first course of the Whiskey & Waffles collaborative brunch between Cichonski’s  Ela and South Philly Tap Room’s Scott Schroeder and Mark Regan.

This St. Patrick’s Day, (Sunday, March 17th), from 10:30 am-2:30 pm, for only $35 a head (with an optional $20 whiskey pairing), Ela and SPTR want to be the ones to kick off your celebrations. The menu looks awesome–including such guaranteed winners as hash browns with bone marrow gravy, cereal-crusted donuts with cereal milk filling, coffee-coddled eggs over duck hash and the aforementioned Whiskey & Waffles (sausage waffles with foie gras whipped cream and smoked maple-whiskey syrup)– and starting off your Sunday with a morning shot doesn’t seem all that bad, because, you know, YOLO or whatever.

Annotated Menu: Scott Schroeder at American Sardine Bar

Posted by Jason Sheehan on February 5th, 2013

According to chef Scott Schroeder, there are two reasons why his Point Breeze joint, American Sardine Bar, became the place it is. First, because he didn’t think the world needed another gastropub (especially one so close to the gastropub he already runs, South Philly Tap Room). And second, because he felt confident that “people will go into bad neighborhoods for a good sandwich.” Here’s what he’s using as bait.

Scott Schroeder (pictured on left) is back with another of his 10-question interviews over at Meal Ticket. This week he sits down with Nick Macri (right), who has taken over the chef duties at Southwark for a fun and goofy interview.

What you’ll learn; Southwark is now serving food to midnight and Canadians smugly believe they’re better than Americans.

Posted by Foobooz on January 2nd, 2013

Hawk Krall’s Gatsby Combo was the first collaboration sandwich on American Sardine Bar’s menu. This month chef Scott Schroeder has worked with food writer and ASB neighbor, Drew Lazor to produce “Dad’s Sandwich.”

The sandwich is made of turkey and pork roll, then topped with cheddar, jalapeño, dijonaise and barbecue potato chips. It’s served on a buttery grilled Texas toast. It will be on the menu at American Sardine Bar all month.

About Last Night: USA vs. Canada At Open Stove IX

Posted by Jason Sheehan on November 8th, 2012

Yes, it was an international rumble in Rittenhouse Square last night with a USA-vs-Canada, cross-border throwdown that pitted the pride of Detroit, Scott Schroeder (of South Philly Tap Room and American Sardine Bar), against Toronto’s own Nick Macri ,the charcuterie wizard of Southwark. It was a battle of the beards. It was a battle for national pride which, at a certain point, devolved into a drinking contest (as such things often do). It was an epic struggle between two chefs who may have forgotten some of their ingredients and left good sense at the door, but never forgot how much was riding on their victory or defeat.

It was Foobooz Open Stove Night IX and it was one for the record books. Thankfully, COOK’s faithful photographer Yoni Nimrod was there to capture it all on film. So for those of you who missed it, here’s a taste of how things looked from the inside.
