The Cleveland Indians are coming to town to face the Phillies this week and they’re brining Great Lakes Brewing with them. That might not be exactly true, but the Sidecar Bar is capitalizing on the Indians rare trip to Philadelphia, by throwing a beer event tomorrow, May 14th. Great Lakes, which might be the best thing that’s come out of Cleveland since Calvin and Hobbes or John D. Rockefeller will be taking over the taps and even the brewer is showing up to the Graduate Hospital bar.
We have such respect for Great Lakes Brewing we’re even going to refrain from taking a cheap-shot at the city of Cleveland. And trust us, that takes some self-control.

The Appetizer Formerly Known As
Back in February Guy Fieri filmed at six local spots for Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Tonight at 10 p.m. we’ll see the first of the Philadelphia establishments featured. Sidecar Bar & Grille will be on tonight’s episode, Chicken, Chili and Chowder.
The Sidecar is inviting everyone to come in and hang out as they watch the showing on both floors. Sidecar’s clam chowder, gnocchi and crab topped fries(The Appetizer Formerly Known As …) will be featured on the show.

The Sidecar Bar is opening at 1 p.m. for the Phillies game today and they will be offering dollar dogs and Cracker Jack.
Leave work now and catch pitching ace Kyle Kendrick as he tries to salvage a split against the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Kraftwork in Fishtown is offering the same deal.
Chris’ Jazz Cafe is also offering Phillies deals. The Sansom Street bar is offering dollar beers and free popcorn.

Good news, everyone!
Two beer havens in this city are offering dollar dogs and dollar caramel popcorn bowls during any weekday Phillies game. That means you don’t have to waste your life/money away on a tin-bottled Bud, and instead, you can enjoy first-class beer with dollar cracker jacks and dollar dogs, all while watching a game that includes high-def replays of your Phillies tearing apart the diamond.
Oh, and guess what today is? A weekday with the Phillies home opener.

On the third Wednesday of each month Sidecar Bar & Grille puts high octane beers on tap in event that they call, High Gravity. Tonight’s menu will include Dogfish Head Immort (11%) and Goose Island Night Stalker (11.5%).

Tonight, Sidecar is hosting a special Mardi Gras themed edition of their monthly High Gravity event. In addition to all the big beers, there will also be a menu full of New Orleans specials.

We thought it was odd that Sidecar Bar & Grille at 22nd and Christian was closed during the day yesterday. Doubly weird that the Standard Tap was also closed. But then a tipster told us they spotted a Diners, Drive-ins and Dives film crew at Sidecar and it began to make sense. We reached out to Standard Tap owner William Reed as to whether he had received a visit from “Flavor Town.” Reed issued a “no comment” which speaks volumes.
Did anyone see Guy Fieri himself around town? And are any diners, drive-ins or dives not open today? Let us know.

In case you somehow missed it, today is December 12, 2012, or 12/12/12. It’s the same backwards and forward. And for some reason everyone loses their shit. And as annoying as that might be, there are some really good events happening today, some inspired by the date, some because it’s the second Wednesday in December.

So yes we know Black Friday is a big shopping day, but who says it can’t be a big drinking day too? And it seems like every bar out there is running specials with black and other dark beers.
