Vegans and Meat Eaters Living Together!

Posted by Foobooz on August 31st, 2011

In Trey Popp’s monthly revisit, he returns to three year-old Sketch on Girard Avenue where he finds an “ebullient mash-up of sermon-free veganism and sloppy-good griddle fare.”

Yes, there are some issues (for example, the unusually thick layer of carbonization on the meat burgers here), but for the most part these are good-value patties that people of all ideologies and income levels can get behind. My truffle butter burger came out perfectly medium rare. The vegan burger nails the balance between squishy interior and crispy singed edge. When I first came to Sketch three years ago, the turkey burger was one of the best I’d ever had—thanks to an injection of dehydrated vegetables reconstituted with olive oil. But this time around I had to save room to sample other parts of a menu that’s grown quite a bit from Sketch’s beginnings, when Farquhar aspired to offer “only five things.”

Existential Meltdown At Sketch

Posted by Foobooz on September 17th, 2008

Adam Erace tries several of the 400 possibilities of burger at Fishtown’s Sketch and calls them some of the best burgers in the city.

Color me nostalgic. When it comes to the burger I’m a purist— at least I always thought I was. But all it took was one bite of Sketch’s buttery Kobe jawbuster smothered in chunky green chili and Thai peanut sauces to totally challenge my entire burger belief system. Existential meltdown commencing.

Girard Avenue Openings

Posted by Foobooz on July 14th, 2008

A couple of new places are opening on Girard Avenue today. Former Tiffin executive chef Raju Bhatari is opening Ekta today. The bi-level spot at 250 E Girard Avenue. [The Clog]

Also opening today on the avenue is Sketch, a burger joint from the folk behind Canvas, the coffee shop across the street. And as you might guess from a spot named Sketch, there will be plenty of opportunities to doodle as you wait, unless you’d rather concentrate on that shake.

Sketch menu after the jump.
