It’s Pliny the Younger season again. The once-a-year triple IPA from Russian River makes beer geeks totally lose their freaking minds. The limited run beer is only shipped to select markets (Philadelphia is the only location east of the Mississippi to receive it). Last night it was tapped and kicked in no time at TJ’s in Paoli. Last year there were only 10 or so sixtels delivered to Philadelphia and each of them created its own spectacle.
Tickets are on sale now for Sunday’s tapping at the Khyber Pass Pub. Each ticket is $15, the profits of which go to The Free Library Of Philadelphia Foundation.
Monday has the Younger and seven other Russian River beers on tap at Monk’s Cafe. Younger will be tapped at 11:20am and sold for $15 per glass. All the proceeds all go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand.
We’ll update this post as we learn of more Pliny the Younger tappings.
Update: St. Stephen’s Green is tapping their Pliny the Younger at noon today (Friday March 4th). Look for the Sidecar Bar & Grille to tap their keg next Friday during their weekend of IPA’s Greatest Hits.
Update 2: Saturday, March 5th will see Devil’s Den tapping their keg at 11am.
Update 3: Resurrection Ale House will tap their Younger along with the Elder and Sanctification and Redemption on Tuesday, March 15th. First 50 who replied to Resurrection’s newsletter will get in at 11am. Doors open to the public at noon.
Update 4: The Drafting Room in Exton pre-sold tickets for their HopFest this Saturday. That’s 8 kegs accounted for.

O Burger is coming to 326 South Street. Owners Eyal Aranya and Yoni Nadav hope the organic burger spot will be the first of a chain. The duo hopes to open the next two in Center City, both just blocks from Five Guys. [Meal Ticket]

Brooklyn Brewing Brewmaster Garrett Oliver will be at the Bishop’s Collar from 6 to 8pm tomorrow evening and then at St. Stephen’s Green till 10pm. Both bars will feature tons of Brooklyn beer on tap including limited edition and one-off beers.

Tonight marks the official grand opening of Time so stop by for that.
Another idea would be to grab an outside table anywhere. If you’re in the Art Museum area both the Belgian Cafe and St. Stephens Green are great alfresco choices.

St. Stephens Green’s chef, Ben McNamara certainly has a fan in Craig LaBan. LaBan gushes about McNamara who he calls, “one of the most consistent cooks I’ve covered over the last decade.”
Longtime McNamara-lytes will recognize all of the chef’s old favorites, reflecting a blend of his classic European style with some of his bar-food updates.
There are his delicate risotto crabcakes, with sweet lumps of crustacean molded into pillows of rice, set over basil butter sauce. Toothsome homemade gnocchi come in porcini cream. And then, there is the chicken cheesesteak, an open-faced baguette toasted with brie, then piled high with tenderly braised poultry, oyster mushrooms and shallots.

Depending on who you believe Vango has an opening day set. Icepack reports it being Saturday, November 10th. However an ad on page 64 of City Paper lists the date as this Saturday. Vango soft-opens Saturday with an official opening set for November 10th. Michael Fee who has experience at Nobu is the chef. [Icepack, City Paper]
G, downstairs from Davio’s sounds pretty cool. And big. This 10,000 sqft lounge is set to debut November 29th, it’ll have Philadelphia first like “movable wall panels and ‘electronic wallpaper,’ projection technology that can change the mood of the lounge in a few clicks.” [Feeding Frenzy, City Paper]
Le Virtù is just about set to open at 1927 E. Passyunk Ave. Shockingly this isn’t a BYOB. But it is Italian. [Table Talk, Philadelphia Inquirer]
Just married couple Scott and Erin Wallace who own Manayunk’s Old Eagle Tavern are transforming the former Felicia’s at 11th and Ellsworth into the Devil’s Den, a beer bar with 28 taps by the end of the year. [Feeding Frenzy, City Paper]
Butcher’s Cafe which long lived in the shadow of Sabrina’s has closed. Todd Bergman has moved on to New Wave Cafe where chef Ben McNamara has headed North to St. Stephens Green. [Food and Drinq]
