Strangelove’s is set to open tomorrow, April 23rd. Yesterday we were invited to check out the two-floored space from the team that has brought us Memphis Taproom, Local 44 and Resurrection Ale House. The new space is their most ambitious yet, with 22-taps and a menu that will appeal to vegans and meat eaters alike. Brendan Hartranft promises a beer list that will always be worth a trip and judging by what was coming out of chef Paul Martin’s kitchen, there will be worthwhile food to pair with those beers. We tried the oh-so-buttery O. Redenbacher’s chili dusted popcorn and rueben croquettes that featured a Russian dressing that was distractingly good. We also downed a roasted turkey grinder with muffaletta spread that truly satisfied and finished it off with a lemon icebox cream pie, that we kept eating despite being way too full.
The grand opening kicks off at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, with complementary bites from the menu and a really impressive opening tap list.

The two-floor bar with twenty tap lines is opening on Tuesday, April 23rd. The opening night blowout will feature a tap list to make all the beer geeks scream and complementary food from chef Paul Martin’s kitchen.

We have to admit, this one excites us.

Strangelove’s is motoring towards its opening. Last week we told you they had replaced the barn door with an honest to god, hinged variety and now they’ve named a chef. Paul Martin, most recently sous chef at Parc and the original chef at Catahoula will be in front of the stoves when Strangelove’s opens.
Martin, who was born in Louisiana and has cooked in Texas, the Pacific Northwest and even had a three year cycling career in France, will bring that wanderlust to Strangelove’s menu. The menu will also be compatible with the desire of co-owners Leigh Maida, Brendan Hartranft and Brendan Kelly to create another affordable and accessible menu that is appealing to vegans/vegetarians and meat-eaters alike.
Strangelove’s is looking at an early April opening as they await the liquor license transfer. For more on the recent civic association meeting, check out Philadelphia Real Estate Blog.

Strangelove’s, the beer bar from Leigh Maida and Brendan Hartranft that will be taking over the former location of the Butcher & the Brewer has replaced that bar’s barn door front with something a bit more conventional. Construction continues towards an anticipated mid-March opening.
Strangelove’s is the fourth bar by the couple (Memphis Taproom, Local 44 and Resurrection Ale House are the others) and will feature two floors, 18 beers on tap plus two beer engines.

Leigh Maida and Brendan Hartranft have settled on Strangelove’s as the name for their newest beer bar at 216 S 11th Street. The spot will be the biggest yet from the couple who have brought us Memphis Taproom, Local 44 and Resurrection Ale House. Strangeloves is aiming to open by mid-March, also Maida’s due date.
The beer program will of course be a strength, with 18-taps plus two beer engines available on both floors. But food will matter as well and Maida and Hartranft are currently looking for a chef.
Why Strangelove’s? It isn’t a Dr. Strangelove reference but a twist on their original choice, Strangeways. Unfortunately that name, that the couple had squared away for years is also the name of a beer bar in Texas (what are the chances). So they audibled and went with Strangelove’s which Maida hopes comes across as “a little mysterious. or romantic.”
