Oh this should generate some comments. Philadelphia gets two pizzas among the top 25 in the United States in the latest edition of GQ.
Tacconelli’s white pizza comes in at number 9 and Osteria’s Zucca pizza (not currently on the menu) is ranked number 22.
Additionally Philadelphia comes in at number 8 in US pizza cities.

Kirsten Henri finally gives up her principle against ordering dough ahead and heads to Port Richmond and Tacconelli’s for pizza. She reserves three doughs and orders one regular, one white and one with sausage and sweet peppers.
Were they better than the average Philly pies? Yes. They had a thin, nicely blistered crust and a tomato sauce that erred on the sweet side. Were they as spectacular as the hype would lead you to believe? No. Are they one of the city’s better pies? Yes. Is it worth going through the whoop-de-do of reserving dough and then waiting another stretch for your pizza to show up? Yes, if only for the same reason it’s sometimes worth going through the whoop-de-do of waiting in an interminable line for a cheesesteak.

$2 Mexican beers, Mexican food specials and Johnny Goodtimes quizzo tonight at O’Neals.
Why not try one of Philadelphia’s best pizzas, give Tacconelli’s a call and see if they have some dough left. Some people get worked up that you have to reserve your dough ahead of time at Tacconelli’s but seriously, how is that different than just making reservations for dinner? So go ahead and call, it’s (215) 425-4983.

Johnny Goodtimes isn’t the only person in Philadelphia out to determine who makes the best pizza in the Philadelphia region. WIP’s Glen Macnow is also on the hunt as he tries 30 pizzas in 30 days. The hunt culminates in a “Pizza Palooza” on Thursday, May 24th.
To try to keep the judging as consistent as possible, Glen is only comparing pepperoni pizzas at each place. So far Tacconelli’s is number 1 and Marrone’s in Ardmore is dead last.

Last year
Johnny Goodtimes embarked on a quest to find the best pizza in the Philadelphia area. In the end he tried more than 25 varieties and gave his highest rank, four pepperonis, to
Tony’s Place,
Tacconelli’s, and
Mama Palma’s.Well he’s doing it again this year and is looking for suggestions. So pop over and give him a few. We have some ourselves,
Osteria,
Sovana Bistro in Kennett Square and
De Lorenzo’s in Trenton.
