Tale of the Tape: Goat Hollow

On Monday, January 21Neil Campbell, owner of Old City’s Race Street Café, and business partner Andy Shahan will open Mt. Airy’s historic Goat Hollow. Goat Hollow is the same name  as the neighborhood restaurant that closed in the same location eight years ago.  The renovated space will offer American brasserie food for lunch and dinner, alongside a craft beer and artisan cocktails.

Tale of the Tape: Center for Culinary Enterprises

The Dorrance H. Hamilton Center for Culinary Enterprises, the new food incubator from the Enterprise Center, was ceremonially opened just last week at 48th and Spruce Streets. As Philly.com and HiddenCity are reporting, the large property will be home to multiple commercial kitchens for food entrepreneurs and small business to use in order to launch or accelerate their businesses. Tale of the Tape: The Mildred

Chefs and friends, Michael Dorris and Michael Santoro are opening The Mildred this evening in Bella Vista. The restaurant will showcase seasonal American cuisine with influences from the pair’s experience in Europe. Santoro will handle the kitchen and Dorris the front of the house. Both are committed to creating a fun and inviting restaurant that welcomes the neighborhood.

If that actually happens we’re pretty sure they’ll run out of pizza before you can say Federal Donuts. But even if you don’t get pizza, it is sure to be one heck of a block party on Frankford Avenue.

  • Chef-owner Greg Vernick is a native of Cherry Hill, New Jersey
  • Served as chef de cuisine at New York City’s Tocqueville.
  • Other jobs included:
  • Sous chef at Jean-Georges, Nougatine and Spice Market
  • Helped train Vongerichten’s restaurant chefs in Doha, Quatar, Tokyo, Japan, Vancouver, Boston and Park City
  • Educated at the Culinary Institute of America and holds a BS in Hospitality Administration from Boston University.

    Vernick Food & Drink Coming to Rittenhouse Square

    We first told you about Greg Vernick’s plans for a Rittenhouse Square restaurant last August. Before Spring is over, the Cherry Hill native aims to open his Vernick Food & Drink at 2031 Walnut Street. The restaurant aims to a vibrant European cafe featuring regional products to create a menu of globally-inspired dishes.

    • Chef de Cusine at New York’s Tocqueville.
    • Sous chef for Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten at Jean-Georges, Nougatine and Spice Market.
    • Trained Vongerichten’s restaurant chefs in Doha, Quatar, Tokyo, Japan, Vancouver, Boston and Park City, Utah.
    • Eductated at Culinary Institute of America.
    • Also holds a B.S. in Hospitality Administration from Boston University.
