UPDATED: Election Day Specials Around Philadelphia

Okay, let’s face it: Tomorrow’s going to be a long day. More than likely, it’s going to be the kind of long day that stretches on long into the night, too. And when it’s done, about half of the country is going to be happy, while the other half is just furiously pissed off.
But whether a Democrat, a Republican or an Independent, a person’s gotta eat. And all over Philly, cafes and pubs alike are making sure you don’t spend election night alone and hungry with viewing parties and special Election Day deals.

Graduate Hospital’s Ultimo Coffee Is Opening Monday

The long awaited second location of Ultimo Coffee is finally opening. Located on 22nd and Catharine St., Ultimo will be serving up their signature brews starting Monday, October 7th at 7 a.m.. While there won’t be any beer at this spot (their Best of Philly winning location at 15th and Mifflin shares space withBREW) there is a coffee school upstairs. Counter Intelligence Coffee has opened a training center that offers classes, labs and seminars. And if you do need a beer, Sidecar is right down the block.

Inquirer Goes Crazy For Coffee

The Inquirer’s Food section today is dedicated to the coffee bean. The exhaustive look at coffee in the area features Craig LaBan’s story on the third wave of coffee culture, his search for the finest beans as well as his 30 best. Fellow caffeine addict Steven Rea focuses on the best local roasters. It’s a really well done set of articles and worth perusing over a fine cup of joe.

The saga over Brew’s liquor license drags on. The Newbold coffee shop and beer store had an official hearing more than a month ago and according to owner John Longacre it went well. But until the witnessing examiner writes up and submits his opinion to the PLCB, it’s limbo time. Ahhh, bureaucracy. [Meal Ticket]

Villanova’s Maia space may not be empty long. Win and Sutida Somboonsong who own a boatload of suburban restaurants (Teikoku, Mikado, Thai Pepper, Flavor, Azie and the soon to open Parker’s Prime) are about to sign on to take over the top floor of the space.
