Reservations For Zahav’s Chef Counter Going Live

Posted by Jason Sheehan on August 1st, 2012

Hey, remember when we told you about that super-exclusive chef’s counter going in at Zahav where, for the ridiculously low price of just $90, Michael Solomonov himself will cook you a 10-course dinner? Yeah, well reservations for what are bound to be the four hardest seats in the city to get are opening up today. In about an hour, actually.

You want in on this deal? Then you need to send an email to counter@zahavrestaurant.com NO EARLIER THAN NOON TODAY. And, I’m guessing, no later than noon-oh-one. Zahav and Solomonov will be taking reservations for eight nights in September (the 7th and 8th, the 14th and 15th, the 21st and 22nd and the 28th and 29th), and are only offering one seating a night. Which means that there are a grand total of 32 seats available for the entire month.

Good luck everyone. All the details you need are at Zahav’s website.

Solomonov Adding Chef’s Counter to Zahav

Posted by Foobooz on July 18th, 2012

Starting in August Michael Solomonov is adding a Kitchen Counter at Zahav. The four-seat counter will be available for one seating a night every Friday and Saturday night where Solomonov will be preparing a 10-course, $90 tasting experience featuring Zahav classics and the chef’s latest and most innovative plates.

For the first four weeks the counter will be invite only and then will be opened up to the public but we expect the Kitchen Couner at Zahav to be among the toughest seats to get. After all, where else can you have  a four-bell winning chef personally cook for you for under $100.

NSFW Friday: Zombie Burlesque, Video Dance Party and Solo Eats Some Brains

Posted by Jason Sheehan on July 6th, 2012

Sure, the 4th of July was fun and all, but for those in the food world, the real party was the night before–July 3rd, when Zahav and Michael Solomonov threw their third annual Down The Shore party. And this year’s theme? Zombie Luau, baby! And man did the city turn out…

What’s that? You spent the day before Independence Day fasting and cleansing in preparation for our nation’s birthday? Well have no fear, my ascetic friends. Because the Foobooz Mobile Party Unit was on hand and we had Yoni Nimroad on the scene with his camera. Not only did he capture all the fun, weirdness, brain-eating, zombie strippers, famous faces and undead awesomeness, but he also managed to shoot a video of the official Zombie Luau Thriller dance-off. Nice work if you can get it, right?

So just click through the jump and take a look. It’ll almost be like you were there–without having to worry about Michael Solomonov eating your brains.

Mmm… Brains…

About Last Night: Doritos and Bourbon Whiskey At Cook

Posted by Jason Sheehan on June 7th, 2012

It was Zahav vs. Lacroix night at Cook and photo ninja Yoni Nimroad of Cook was there to capture it all

Last night was another in our series of Foobooz Open Stove Night‘s at Cook–our knock-down, drag-out, no-holds-barred cooking competitions that pit up-and-coming local kitchen crews against each other in honorable combat. The guys we bring in for these contests are not the chefs whose names you know now, but the ones who you should be watching in the future, and this time around we had two serious competitors.

On one side, Adam Lazarick, executive sous from Lacroix, who brought along as his second Michael Griffiths, currently of Rittenhouse Tavern and an old buddy of Adam’s. On the other, Yehuda Sichel of Zahav, ably backed up by Erik Morgan. And their challenge? Four courses in two hours for twenty people while we did everything we could to screw with them and throw them off their game.

Let’s see how things went, shall we?

Zombie Luau at Zahav

Posted by Aubrey Nagle on May 16th, 2012

On July 3rd at 6pm, Chef Michael Solomonov and Zahav will be hosting their third annual Down the Shore party, and this year’s theme is Zombie Luau. That’s right, you read correctly: Zombie Luau.

Tickets are $75 and include all-you-can-eat-and-drink access to Chef Solomonov’s pig roast and buffet, as well as dishes from eight other top Philly chefs. That’s right again: this is an all-you-can-eat Zombie Luau.

Terence Feury of Fork, Top Chef’s Jen Carroll, Dave Katz of Mémé, Erin O’Shea of Percy Street Barbecue, Terence Feury of Fork,  Pierre Calmels of Bibou, Monica Glass of Fish, John Taus of The Corner and Peter Woolsey of Bistrot La Minette will be contributing dishes as well . The party also includes live music, a photo booth, zombie face painting, and crazy costumes, so break out that hula skirt and fake blood.

Only 150 tickets are available and advance tickets are required, so pick up the phone now and call (215) 625-8800 before they sell out. You wouldn’t want to be the only of your undead friends to miss out on this, would you?

One of Us: Michael Solomonov

Posted by Victor Fiorillo on April 3rd, 2012

The New York Times loves his Federal Donuts, Craig LaBan just upgraded his Israeli spot Zahav to four bells, and he’s expanding to the Main Line this summer with kosher restaurant Citron and Rose. But what the 32-year-old Israeli-born, Pittsburgh-raised master chef wants to talk about is McNuggets, origami and “Radar Love.”

My name is … Michael Solomonov. It’s Russian. My great-great-grandparents had the name Bachar. They lived in Bulgaria, and at one point, when the Ottomans were oppressing, the Bulgarians revolted and the Russians helped them. They all took Russian last names.
